My last day in Nice, FranceOctober 8, 2019

It is always great to return home after a long trip abroad. My trip to Oxford and Southern France including Corsica was fantastic but returning home to comfortable surroundings, family and friends is wonderful too.
My main hobby at home is playing contract bridge which is a challenging game that I think is a little like playing Chess because it involves careful planning, strategy and above all a great memory for which cards have been played by whom and who has what remaining cards. For those of you not familiar with bridge, it is a little like the old game of cards called war in which the high card wins. That is also true in taking “tricks” in bridge but you have to follow suit so that if someone plays a heart then you have to play a heart too and the higher card wins EXCEPT if you are out of that suit and have a “trump” card. Not to be confused with you know who, a trump card will beat any other card except a higher trump. Oh well, that is probably enough about bridge, but I do enjoy the challenge and it is a partnership game so working with your partner is a crucial skill in bridge also.
As many of you already know I have been working on a second career as a freelance writer using “Upwork.com” as a platform to get clients. For some unknown reason, I have become somewhat of an expert on Cannabis of all things! I have written over 15 articles dealing with what Cannabis is, what it might do for better and for worse, the legalities of it and even the growing, manufacturing and distributing of it. I have even written about how to avoid Cannabis scams when considering possibly investing in a Cannabis company. I have learned a lot about a subject which is gaining increasing prominence in today’s news.
Right now I am experiencing a bit of a lull in my writing and I am working on gaining new clients. I want to branch out into another field but of course healthcare and related subjects are easiest for me but I like the idea of finance and investing but I will have to do a fair amount of research to get up to speed on that subject.
Oh, yes, on November 15 I am going to depart on a two week trip to London to enjoy the season at the Barbican Theater. I will see three Shakespeare plays by the Royal Shakespeare Company of which I am a Patron. Measure for Measure, Taming of the Shrew and As You Like It are the three plays and I have never seen any of them performed live before so this will be a real treat. I will also see Ian McKellen in his much acclaimed one man show as well as performances by the Academy of Ancient Music, the Budapest Festival Orchestra with pianist Andres Schiff, the Britten Sinfonia and also the flamboyant but fantastic pianist Yuja Wang. It will be a whirlwind two weeks and I am hoping for good weather, but I am planning to be prepared for the worst-cold, rain and maybe even snow! Who knows??
For this blog post, I made a selection of some older photos that I thought might interest you. They are taken from my travels over the past 40 years. Enjoy!
