I am lucky enough to have a wonderful daughter who makes me special Christmas and birthday pastry treats that were first made for me by my Grandmother Gertrude Cowan back in my youth in Buffalo, New York.  The two upper pastries in this photo, which we called Gipfels, are supposedly German in origin but nobody else seems to have heard of them.  The two lower pastries we call Banbury Tarts and may be of English origin as there is a city named Banbury in England.  Whatever their origin, I love them both and try to only eat one or two at a time so they will last as long as possible because I only get them once a year.  Thanks to my darling daughter Anne and her burgeoning pastry chef Kelsey for my Christmas and birthday treats.

They are my all time favorites.  The two bottom pastries we call Banbury Tarts and may be English in origin as Banbury is a city in England.
