Ah well, that was yesterday and today is Sunday in Nice, France. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of a “French Lunch” at the amazing Restaurant Alain Llorca located just below and with a beautiful view of St.Paul de Vence, site of my first visit to the “French Riviera” in, I think it was, 1981! I shared this lovely afternoon lunch with my good friends Patrick and Evelyne Rossi on the terrace of the restaurant with a wonderful, soft, warm breeze making for a perfect time. We also had the pleasure of a visit to our table of the chef-owner of the restaurant M. Alain Llorca.

His menu emphasizes fresh locally sourced ingredients such as fish, lobster, figs and apples as well as my favorite, foie gras! My lunch began with “crispy” foie gras layered with sliced apples and figs. Figs are ripe at this time of the year both here in France and on my own fig tree back home in California. The wonderful sommelier also named Patrick, suggested my favorite local wine a white Bellet from the Chateau de Bellet located on a small hillside above Nice, which I hope to visit for a wine tasting when I return from Corsica. The Bellet was perfect both with my foie gras and with my main course a wonderfully prepared lobster dish just bursting with flavor. A glorious cheese course, which I forgot to photograph, featured my favorite French cheese Epoisse from the Burgundy region. Dessert of red fruit capped off a wonderful meal and a wonderful afternoon.

Looking up at St. Paul perched on the hill above us after such a meal, I realize again that my love affair with France continues. Tomorrow Patrick and I are off to Corsica, the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte by ferry across about 200 miles of the Mediterranean Sea, the “Azure” in Cote’ d’Azure! Stay tuned because Corsica is going to be entirely new for me and I will tell you all about it over the next week so stay tuned!
